Introduction to Advice

Suitable for all careers staff involved in advice interactions with students, this course will be useful to those working on the frontline and/or interacting with students in partner units.

This one day course is for all careers staff involved in advice interactions with students. Content considers the specific skills of advice and its application within the typical activities of a careers service. It will be useful to staff working on the frontline, in information and also those interacting with students in partner units, such as placement, job shops, and employability advice.

It's an interactive course, using exercises and case studies, as well as common models of practice.

Here's what some previous participants had to say:

"The case studies were particularly helpful. Listening to other people on the course and their experiences, encouraged me to think of how I would approach situations."

"The course content presentation was very good. Not jargon laden at all."

" I've always found networking with other colleagues a very useful element in gaining greater understanding and awareness and this event was no different. The whole day was very well structured and delivery was excellent and very inclusive."

"The most helpful part of the event/activity was the practical element, whereby I advised someone in a mock situation as if having an interaction with a student. This was useful as it enabled me to practice interaction and I believe this benefited me the most."
