Vacancies on the Postgraduate Taught Task Group

About the Task Group: 

The group is active, enthusiastic and is very keen to welcome new members working in any role within a careers and employability service who share a particular interest in careers provision for postgraduate taught (PGT) students. The group comprises eight members and meets up to three times a year to discuss a range of issues connected to supporting AGCAS members working with PGT students.  Output from the group includes:

  • AGCAS training courses: Accelerate: Get your PGTs moving faster (2017); Mastering Expectations (2018); Workshops at AGCAS conference (2017): PGT Transition Shock 2017; 2018: What Do Masters Graduates Do? with Charlie Ball from Graduate Prospects) and Webinar: PGT Insights – landscape, news and highlights (2019).
  • AGCAS web content to showcase case studies and useful resources for careers staff involved in PGT provision (currently under development)
  • Collaboration and consultations with external organisations such as Graduate Prospects, UK Council for Graduate Education (UKCGE) and Office for Students (OfS) to provide a PGT lens on projects, publications and initiatives.
  • Introduction to Working with Postgraduate Students; a suite of slides providing useful advice on working with different PGT student groups.

What we are looking for:

We are looking for three new members who will complement the existing knowledge base and experience within our Task Group and enable us to represent the diversity of member institutions. 

We are open to applications from those interested in all elements of the group's work, although we are particularly keen to hear from applicants with one or more of the following interests:

  • creating useful resources for AGCAS members on the website
  • part-time and distance learning PGTs
  • employer activities with PGTs
  • data analysis

You will need to be able to commit to attending two face to face meetings per year, engaging in periodic online catch-up meetings and email discussion and ideally be able to commit to a 3-year tenure. You will also need to devote time to developing resources/taking part in organising and/or delivering training, etc.

How to apply 

If you are interested in becoming a member of the PGT Task Group please submit your CV and a short application (guideline of around 600 words) explaining your interest in joining, any relevant experience and what you believe you could contribute. A Word document would be preferred, as submissions will be circulated to current group members to read.

Applicants will be expected to have already sought the agreement of their potential involvement in the Task Group from their Head of Service/Line Manager before applying.
