Vacancies on the Social Mobility and Widening Participation Working Party

23 October 2020

 The AGCAS Social Mobility and Widening Participation Working Party (SMWP) is seeking to recruit two new members.

About the working party

The SMWP reviews members’ interests, activities, measures and outcomes related to WP student and graduate outcomes and social mobility, while supporting the enhancement of social mobility through the promotion of best practice within the AGCAS membership and HE sector.

The group currently comprises six full time members and meets three times a year. The SMWP is responsible for:

  • Promoting and communicating social mobility and widening participation best practice within the HE sector;
  • Engaging with external stakeholders and contributing to sector-level discussion and policy development concerning social mobility and widening participation;
  • Helping inform the AGCAS view on social mobility and widening participation issues and generating responses to external reports and research.

In 2019 and 2020, the SMWP created a Social Mobility Toolkit to provide a bank of information and case studies for AGCAS members to review and learn from; and were instrumental in the design and delivery of the first AGCAS ‘Addressing policy challenges’ seminar.

What we are looking for

We are an active and inclusive group and are keen to welcome new members who are champions of widening participation in their institution, and passionate about driving positive change within careers and employability – and the wider HE sector – to ensure that students and graduates are able to achieve their ambitions and not be limited by their socio-economic status.

We are particularly keen to hear from members with an equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) remit and members based in Wales or the south west of England; though please do not be put off applying if you do not fall into these categories.

Interested?

Please feel free to contact Helen Smith, AGCAS Social Mobility Director, or Gabi Binnie, AGCAS Policy and Research Manager, with any questions you might have about the group or for an informal conversation.

How to apply

If you are interested in becoming a member of the group, please complete an application form and submit to volunteering@agcas.org.uk by 17:00, 9 November 2020. Our next meeting will take place virtually on 17 November, 14:00 – 16:00, and it would be fantastic if the successful applicants are able to join us.
