UNIVERSITY OF THE WEST OF ENGLAND BRISTOL WINS THE AGCAS BUILDING EFFECTIVE PARTNERSHIPS AWARD 2018

05 September 2018

The winner of the AGCAS Building Effective Partnerships Award 2018 is the University of the West of England, Bristol (UWE Bristol) for their work in supporting the development of careers and enterprise provision in Northern Africa.

UWE Bristol’s well established Employability and Enterprise service has a strong history of supporting the creation of social enterprises. Once the British Council (BC), Morocco, identified the potential for introducing social enterprise to Northern Morocco, UWE Bristol were quick to recognise the benefit of this cross cultural and institutional collaboration and went into partnership with the BC and the University of Abdelmalek Essaadi (UAE).

This partnership has resulted in the creation of the first HEI-led social enterprise incubation programme in Morocco, the upskilling of 15 cross-disciplinary UAE academics through train-the-trainer sessions and the production of teaching resources. The project was due to end in December 2017, but owing to its success additional funding has been secured and the partnership is set to continue.

To ensure that this partnership was delivered effectively UWE Bristol created an institutional team comprising of staff members from the careers service, research, business and innovation and an academic within the business school. The project aimed to share best practice between the two institutions, but has also allowed for the creation of additional resources which can now be re-purposed within UWE Bristol’s programme delivery, all while developing the capacity for social enterprise support for staff and students in Northern Morocco.
