05 September 2019

The winner of the AGCAS Outstanding Newcomer Award 2019 is Dr Rachel Shannon from Ulster University.

Rachel has made a significant contribution to the work of the Employability and Careers Department at Ulster University and to the wider careers community. Rachel’s passion for supporting student learning, along with her professionalism and motivation, has resulted in the successful implementation of a wide range of strategic employability initiatives.

On her contribution to a project to improve widening participation students’ employability outcomes, Etta Parkes (Aston University, Director of Employability) commented:

Rachel was integral not just to Ulster’s success as a project partner, but also to the success of the project overall.

Rachel went beyond her remit of leading evaluation activities by supporting the implementation of Ulster’s intervention, disseminating project outcomes and developing the HE sector Toolkit.  The project would not have achieved such successful outcomes if it had not been for the focus, expertise and commitment of Rachel.’
