University of Liverpool wins the AGCAS Sustainability Impact Award 2021

Sustainability Impact

The winner of the AGCAS Sustainability Impact Award 2021 is the University of Liverpool.

As the 2020/21 academic year approached, concerns that the removal of the experiential elements of joining, or returning to, campus were prevalent. Making connections, creating friendships and embracing new opportunities – all intrinsic to employability development – were at risk of disappearing. The University of Liverpool believed that sustainability was a perfect topic to combat this; it creates debate, motivates action and crucially, it cuts across all degree disciplines. Using the UN’s Sustainable Developmental Goals (SDGs) as the foundation, the online learning module Sustainability in Action (SIA) was born.

Judges' comments

"The judging panel were very impressed with the Sustainability in Action project; its impact on the sustainability goals of the university is clear, and tie in well to employability. There is a building movement towards tying the work of the careers sector to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, and the judges really liked this starting point. There was an active student voice in the development of the programme, and the reach and impact of the Sustainability in Action module is clear."

The winner was announced at the AGCAS Awards for Excellence showcase webinar on 25 June 2021.
