Vacancy on the AGCAS Phoenix Editorial Group

AGCAS is inviting applications from Full and Partner Members to join the Phoenix Editorial Group, which is responsible for the production of Phoenix, the AGCAS journal. The group reports to the AGCAS Research and Knowledge Committee.

About Phoenix

Phoenix is predominantly for AGCAS members to showcase and share best practice in careers and employability service delivery across a wide range of areas. Produced three times a year (in February, June and October), Phoenix is the vehicle for members to share the plethora of initiatives, schemes, projects and collaborations that sit at the heart of the modern-day university careers service.

Each edition of Phoenix is themed. Recent issues have covered regionalisation, big data, social mobility, student well-being, postgraduate students, placements, graduate destinations, graduate attributes and employer engagement.

As well as dissemination within the AGCAS community, Phoenix is also shared with key external stakeholder contacts and AGCAS’s critical friends. Increasingly, we are using Phoenix to highlight sector best practice as part of AGCAS Advocacy activity.

The role

The role involves liaising with article contributors (predominantly other AGCAS members) and reviewing, proofreading, editing and finalising article content for publication. Group members are also involved in other aspects of journal production and promotion, including making decisions on suitability of content, determining themes for future issues and promoting the journal within and outside of the HE careers and employability community.

The group holds two face-to-face and one teleconference meeting a year, and communicates by email in between meetings – frequently so in the run-up to the publication of an issue.

The group is especially interested in receiving applications from AGCAS members based in Scotland or in Wales in the interest of balancing the membership of the group and ensuring wide representation. However, applications from all members who are keen to be involved in the production of the AGCAS journal will be considered, irrespective of role, position in your service or type of institution.

If you have excellent attention to detail, high standards of written communication, editorial skills, a creative flair, the ability to work to tight deadlines and think you would enjoy working as part of a team to help produce the AGCAS journal, please get in touch.

Next meeting

The next meeting of the Phoenix Editorial Group will take place on Thursday 16 May at Keele University.

Next issue deadline

The next issue of Phoenix, which we will be dedicating to Academic Alignment, will be published in June. The Editorial Group deadline for the June issue is Wednesday 15 May.

Please apply to Gemma Green with a brief statement (no more than 500 words) explaining why you are interested in the role, outlining any relevant experience and what you think you could bring to the group.
