City wins AGCAS Award for Enterprise and Entrepreneurship 2017

13 September 2017

The winner of the 2017 AGCAS Award for Enterprise and Entrepreneurship is City, University of London for its Social Enterprise Festival (SEF).

The SEF was a public, seven-day platform, which focussed on making an impact through highly innovative workshops, debates and competitions across two institutions. The platform proved to be a great example of community engagement, which capitalised on City’s unique London location.

The SEF targeted London’s community interested in the learning and development associated with social change, and those businesses and people at earlier stages of development. 600 guests attended across the week including local businesses, students and members of the community.

The team arranged 20 events with 38 presenters delivering a variety of workshops. 16 local social enterprises showcased their products through the Buy Social Market Place and £2,000 in prizes were awarded to new social enterprises. The SEF also attracted students from several national, local and international universities. It also proved to be a successful opportunity to engage with the city’s widening participation students from low socio-economic backgrounds.
