Call for articles: Phoenix, July 2021 – The technology-enhanced careers service

Reflecting on how Covid-19 has accelerated digital adoption and transformation, the July 2021 issue of Phoenix, the AGCAS journal, will explore the technology-enhanced careers service.

About Phoenix

Phoenix showcases best practice in careers and employability delivery across a wide range of areas of activity. We use Phoenix to highlight the work of our members and to position AGCAS as experts in student and graduate career development as part of our external engagement activity.

Article proposals

We are now inviting articles for the July 2021 issue that explore the following themes:

Using technology to enhance the delivery of careers, education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG)

  • How are you using new/existing technology to enhance service efficiency and develop new ways of working?
  • How has technology enabled you to leverage global perspectives and networks to inform your careers and employability delivery?
  • How has careers guidance evolved in response to new technology?
  • What approaches are you taking to develop and curate engaging online content and resources for use as part of central delivery and/or in the curriculum?

The practitioner perspective: thinking digitally in a digital world

  • What has been your personal experience of learning how to use new technology over the past 12 months? How have you adapted your practice?
  • How have you embraced new forms of technology to design and deliver technology-enhanced solutions in your work?
  • What have been the successes and learning points from upskilling and experimenting with new technology?

The long-lasting impact of the move to digital/virtual delivery

  • What does the accelerated adoption of technology mean for future hybrid models of delivery for careers and employability services and employer’s virtual recruitment processes?
  • How are you planning for the future?
  • What approaches are you taking to address changing stakeholder needs in the current circumstances?

The impact of digital/virtual delivery on students and graduates

  • To what extent has the move to online delivery improved engagement with the previously unengaged?
  • Where do engagement challenges remain and how are you seeking to overcome these?
  • How have students and graduates responded to the shift to digital guidance and virtual delivery?
  • How are you supporting students’ and graduates' competence and confidence in navigating technology-enhanced services?

  • with an outline of your proposed article (no more than 250 words)
  • indicating which of the themes above your article seeks to address

You will then be allocated an editor from the Phoenix Editorial Group, who will offer full support throughout the writing and submission process.

Word count

The following word counts are intended as a guideline:

  • 700 words for a one-page article
  • 950 words for a double-page spread

Key deadlines

The deadline for article proposals is Friday 9 April 2021.

The deadline for submission of final articles is Wednesday 26 May 2021.
