Employer engagement: One year on - July 2021

This report, on behalf of the AGCAS Employer Engagement Task Group, explore how the events of the last year (March 2020-21) have changed the landscape of employer-university interactions and whether we might be able to use this knowledge to predict the future of employer engagement.

This report provides a snapshot in time to evaluate the impact the pandemic has had on employer engagement activity in careers services. We hope it will give insights to the extent of this change, and inspire confidence in colleagues reflecting on how much they have been able to adapt provision. This has been an extraordinary year, and we are yet to see how the landscape of employer engagement will continue to evolve.

In addition to the full report, we have also provided a short summary report which answers the following research questions:

  1. How is the pandemic continuing to affect universities’ careers-related employer engagement?
  2. Have the methods of evaluating employer engagement activities changed?
  3. Has the increased use of virtual employer engagement activities since March 2020 influenced how effective they are perceived to be?
  4. Are careers fairs still the most effective careers-related employer engagement activity?
  5. Are the factors that were rated as most likely to impact institutional careers-related employer engagement activities over the next two years still the same now?
