Discussion Lists Guidelines

We have four moderated discussion lists:

Please note: no other AGCAS lists are moderated. Messages sent to unmoderated lists are immediately circulated to all list subscribers.

Messages sent by members to the lists need to be either approved or rejected by an AGCAS staff moderator before being circulated to list subscribers. The team to make a decision on if a message can be approved or rejected uses the following guidelines:

  • The moderator is unable to amend messages. They are only able to approve or reject based on the copy presented.
  • Messages must not include any attachments. All copy should be included in the body of the email
  • Messages must include details of how respondents can contact you or a nominated contact directly and off-link
  • Messages must have a meaningful subject heading
  • Messages should be sent to the correct list. If in doubt, check here: Email Discussion Lists
  • Messages should appear ‘neutral’, especially when seeking feedback about contact with or experience of an external organisation/employer
  • Messages should not include details of feedback received or summaries of responses to previous discussion list enquiries. If these are requested from other list subscribers, please ensure you have consent to share comments and send directly to the requester/s
  • Messages sent in reply to a posting should be sent direct to the originator of the message, not via the discussion list
  • We recommend first checking the ‘search archives’ area of the list you intend to post to, to check whether another member has recently posed a similar query. This would be in the interest of avoiding repeat messaging on the same subject
  • If collated responses are to be forwarded to other members, the sender must ensure they have the original senders’ consent before sharing including any personal information such as name and institution
  • Messages should not be sent by a member forwarded on behalf of another member or non-member, unless there is a formal link established through AGCAS (e.g. supporting Task Groups, ALO activities, strategically aligned organisations determined by the Board of Directors and AGCAS Staff Team). If you wish to do this for any reason, please contact membership@agcas.org.uk to discuss further
