Consultation on the future of the PhD in the Social Sciences

The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) is undertaking a review of UK doctoral training in the social sciences. The aim is to ensure a diverse population of social science doctoral graduates that have the capabilities to be globally competitive and contribute to research in a dynamic landscape. The ESRC are particularly keen for feedback around the skills needed by social science PhD graduates to prepare them for careers both within and beyond academia, as well as views on the strengths and limitations of current doctoral study programmes. This will help address gaps in the evidence and enhance ESRC-funded training. View the consultation here

The AGCAS Research Students and Research Staff Task Group has drafted a response to the consultation and we invite the wider AGCAS membership to contribute their views and comment on the response.
