Writing for the Web, Warwick

    A one-day course designed to review, refresh and improve your web writing skills. This course is intended for all members who have responsiblity for updating or creating content for their careers service website.

    It is one of three new one-day courses run as a part of the Postgraduate Certificate in CEIGHE under the AGCAS/The University of Warwick Working in Information module.

    This course can be taken as part of the AGCAS/The University of Warwick certificate qualification. However, it is open to all - you don't have to be a registrant to participate.

    By the end of the course participants will:

    1. Have reviewed and refreshed their understanding of the principles of good web writing, including

    • how to engage users with web content
    • how users read web pages
    • what users like and what they dislike when using the web
    • the key differences between writing for the web and writing for paper
    • the little things you can do to improve as a web writer

    2. Be able to identify the principles of good web design, including

    • how words and images work together
    • how good design helps deliver the message
    • how good design increases ease of use

    3. Be able to analyse and evaluate their own and others' websites

    4. Understand the benefits and drawbacks of using content management systems

    5. Be able to analyse and evaluate their own institution's CMS

    6. Feel more confident in their web design and writing

    7. Develop a personal action plan

    The course price includes all tuition, meals and refreshments.

    If you would like to stay at Warwick on the night before, please contact Warwick Conferencing (tel: 02476 221111). Please note that AGCAS will not be involved in these 'extra' arrangements and you will be required to pay Warwick directly.

    NB: If you intend to do this course as part of the CEIGHE qualification with The University of Warwick, you need to register for the module with the university. Once AGCAS has offered you a place on the course, you will need to complete a University of Warwick Module Registration Form (available below) and return it as soon as possible, certainly before the course, runs, to the university (address on form).
