Creative Futures for Creative Graduates, Coventry

This one day regional training event aims to give participants an insight into the creative careers of those working in the creative industries sector. An industry which is characterised by portfolio working, high levels of self-employment, part-time work, business start up and micro businesses of less than 10 people. The sector has over two million people employed contributing £60 billion per year to the British economy.
A series of speakers, will give an overview of their areas of specialism and the journey which they have taken in their creative careers. The final line up will depend upon availability of speakers. It is anticipated professionals from performing arts, industrial and graphic design, media and PR, the world of fashion will be present on the day to talk about their careers.
Confirmed speakers are:
Emma Pollard - a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Employment Studies which is an independent, national centre of expertise on productivity, manpower planning and labour market change. Emma will talk about the key findings from the longitudinal survey, ‘Creative Graduates Creative Futures’ which focuses upon the career patterns of graduates from art and design subjects.
Gavin Douglas - a fashion designer who has developed an exciting new high-end designer fashion brand that within only three years has achieved incredible success and recognition amongst the fashion industry's elite. Douglas' ultra chic designs have been worn by ‘A list celebrities’ and have been seen regularly on the pages of the world's most influential fashion magazines.
Richard Neale - Drive Time presenter for Mercia radio which is the market leading commercial radio station in Coventry & Warwickshire, having been on air since 1980. Playing mainstream pop music, our broad audience demographic is 25-44. Rich will talk about how he reached his current position in his career and the challenges he has had to overcome to get there.
Jane Hytch - one of the company directors for Imagineer Productions, an independent creative production company based in Coventry. Imagineer has a wealth of experience working in the creative arts industry. The team also revived and reimagined the Coventry Carnival (now entitled Godiva Carnival Procession). Projects undertaken have included the revival of the Coventry Mystery Plays, and the national tour of Roald Dahl’s ‘The Twits’.
Andy Wheel – a principal designer for Jaguar Land Rover whose personal portfolio includes being the designer behind the famous first sketch of the ‘Discovery 3’. Andy will be talking about his career in the design industry and will also be giving his top tips for creative portfolios and CVs.
Please note that this event is primarily for AGCAS members in the West Midlands region. As this training course is run regionally by AGCAS members, the AGCAS Office will not be involved in bookings.
