Gender equality training for HE and adult careers professionals, Reading
-
Mon 29 Mar 2010
The UK Resource Centre for Women in Science, Engineering and Technology (UKRC) is developing a new programme of gender equality training for careers professionals working with adults and in HE.
The UKRC works with careers advice and guidance professionals in order to help address the issues which contribute to gender segregation in education and careers choices. They engage with key professionals throughout the guidance, learning and employment cycle, as well as with women themselves, in order to promote access to a wide range of career choices and to improve training and employment opportunities for women in science, engineering and technology (SET).
Women are often unaware of the diverse and exciting opportunities available to them and may not consider taking up a non-traditional learning and career path for a variety of reasons. Careers advice and guidance professionals have a key role to play in offering balanced and well-informed advice, helping to dispel stereotypes and broadening the horizons of young women at crucial points in their educational careers. Similarly, advice and guidance to women returners to the job market is equally important to the directions they may choose and adult guidance professionals have a vital role in providing information to this important group.
