    This course aims to expand the professional competence of experienced careers advisers by equipping them with the knowledge, structure and higher level skills necessary to implement a counselling approach to guidance intervention. 

    Who is it for?
    This course is intended for experienced careers advisers who regularly provide one to one guidance and who are already competent and confident practitioners. It is suitable for those who are interested in reviewing their current practice and developing new perspectives and skills. Inexperienced advisers are recommended to register for the Advice and Guidance Skills course.

    What will you get from it?
    By the end of the course, participants should be able to:

    - apply a theoretical base to one-to-one guidance practice
    - evaluate existing skills
    - identify areas for further development
    - demonstrate appropriate skills and strategies to enable clients to make decisions (with particular emphasis on difficult issues for clients)
    - incorporate reflection and review into future professional development

    Entry requirements
    This is an advanced course. Post Graduate Diploma registrants who do not meet the entry requirements are expected to attend the 'Advice and Guidance Skills' course first and then build their experience of one to one guidance work before applying.

    AGCAS qualification
    This course is an optional module for those enrolled for the AGCAS qualification PG Dip and Masters.  

    If you intend to do this course as part of a qualification with the University of Reading, you need to register for the module with the university as well as complete the AGCAS application form (see below).

    Once AGCAS has offered you a place on the course, if you haven’t already, you will need to send a completed University of Reading Module Registration Form (see below) as soon as possible, and certainly before the course runs, to the University of Reading (the address is on the form).

    NB: If you intend to do this course as part of a qualification with the University of Reading you need to register for the module with the University. Once AGCAS has offered you a place on the course you will need to complete a University of Reading Module Registration Form – please see below - and return it as soon as possible, certainly before the course runs, to the University (address on form).

    For those of you who have heard about the impending transfer of these courses from the University of Reading to the University of Warwick, then please note that the registration process remains the same until the anticipated handover date of 1 August 2010. Until this time all module registrations will take place through Reading.
