Resources in the Careers Information

  1. How to make a podcast

A recent ICT survey by AGCAS shows that while 38% of careers services are currently making use of audio podcasts in their work with students, at least as many again are considering doing so. This resource is to help them - and perhaps to enable some of those who aren't even considering it to think again.

  2. Creative Britain - New Talents for the New Economy

Creative Britain - New Talents for the New Economy sets out the government's commitment to support the creative industries. Produced by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), this report is essential reading for anyone offering careers education, information, advice and guidance to students and graduates aiming for a career in the sector.

  3. Career pathways for graduates into the voluntary or community sector

This report looks at the experiences of graduates who are in a variety of roles and organisations in the voluntary/community sector and provides some useful insights into job seeking in this area.

  4. Harris Report

In June 2000, Sir Martin Harris, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Manchester, was invited to carry out a review of the careers services of HE institutions in England. The purpose of the review was to help universities and colleges identify and disseminate best practice across the sector.

  5. Occupational Classification

This revised version of the AGCAS Occupational Classification marks the culmination of two years' work by the AGCAS Classification Task Group and the first major overhaul of the system since its introduction in 1985.

  6. Academic Careers in Europe

This report from the Academic Careers Observatory (ACO) provides an overview of the different national academic systems and academic career patterns in Europe. The report's focus is on those elements that facilitate or hinder academic mobility, both within national systems and across Europe.

  7. Sector Skills Councils' careers information portal

Skillfast-UK, the Sector Skills Council (SSC) for fashion and textiles, has created a careers information portal to help busy careers professionals find sector-specific careers information more easily.

  8. A Quick Guide to Age Diversity Issues

A Quick Guide to Age Diversity Issues has been produced for AGCAS colleagues by the Age Diversity Task Group. The guide aims to answer some of the most common questions raised since the introduction of age legislation in October 2006.

  9. AGCAS Discussion Lists

AGCAS membership gives you access to a range of discussion lists, which allow you to tap into the collective wisdom of the entire membership. There are lists covering specialist areas of interest, and more general lists.

  10. Non-Occupational Classification

The Non-Occupational Classification was produced in 2004 by the then AGCAS Classification Committee as an optional resource for individual services. The intention behind its production was to provide a system that would readily accommodate all the sources of information which services, particularly those looking to set up a single searchable database of all their resources, need to classify.
