King’s wins AGCAS Award for Internationalisation 2017

The winner of the 2017 AGCAS Award for Internationalisation 2017 is King’s College London for their Global Internships Programme.

King’s Global Internships Programme enhances the global mobility of King’s students, providing an opportunity to apply their skills and knowledge. This is achieved via bespoke international placements, which assist them in becoming global graduates, whilst establishing a valuable overseas network. Inaugurated in 2016, it has subsequently facilitated opportunities for 188 students to immerse themselves in one of ten overseas locations, each identified in consultation with student focus groups, DLHE data and local market intelligence, to provide unique cultural experiences.

Leveraging existing support across the institution, including through a dedicated project officer within the Alumni Relations team, has ensured the programme has developed a high profile internally. However, it has also generated benefits to the wider institution of increased mentoring and fundraising opportunities. King’s Careers & Employability has benefitted more widely from enhanced links with international employers and an increase in international postings.

Judges comments

“I think the student engagement from the initial applications shows that students can see the benefits of the programme, which are demonstrated by the student feedback at the end too.”

“I liked the combination of data analytics and student consultation which informed this project. The number of students on placement impressed me, and also the high numbers of applications received. I also found the creative use of vlogs for reflection current and effective for marketing purposes.”
