Update from the AGCAS Alumni Group

The AGCAS Alumni Group consists of former AGCAS members who have retired or ceased to work in an AGCAS Service and who wish to remain in touch with former colleagues. The group is very informal and are now seeking to attract new members from those AGCAS members, who are about to, or have recently retired.

This year’s group reunion took place in Hull in May. Hull was chosen as the venue to coincide with it being the UK City of Culture and the group met at the University of Hull's Wilberforce Institute of Slavery and Emancipation where they heard a highly thought provoking talk on modern day slavery. This was followed by an inspiring talk from Valerie Metcalfe, former director of Hull and Westminster Careers services, on the consultancy work that she is doing at Cape Town University, South Africa.

Retired member Mandy Jones commented on the the group:

"If you are about to embark on the scary journey of retirement and are anxious about losing touch with friends, colleagues and letting go of a much loved career do consider becoming a member of the AGCAS Alumni Group. It was great to sit alongside former colleagues, some I knew but many I didn't, and enjoy the company of likeminded people."

The group are currently seeking new volunteers to get involved in co-ordinating the group and its activities, including liaising with the AGCAS Board and relevant staff. If you, or someone you know, are interested in joining or volunteering and would like to know more, please contact Margaret Dane.
