Maureen Tibby wins AGCAS Significant Influence Award 2016

The first recipient of the 2016 AGCAS Significant Influence Award is Maureen Tibby, who has played an instrumental role in shaping the higher education careers and employability sector.

Inspirational leader

During a career spanning over 35 years, Maureen has not only helped to train many HE careers professionals but also mentored, nurtured and encouraged a whole generation of staff and led on a wide range of employability projects and initiatives to help thousands of students to reach their potential.

As a manager, Maureen has been an inspirational leader, committed to achieving quality guidance, enhancing graduate employability, supporting staff development, influencing policy and sharing and disseminating best practice.

As a highly active member of AGCAS over a number of years, Maureen demonstrated her support and contribution to the association throughout her career by serving on a variety of task groups and working parties, including the AGCAS Careers Education Task Group, the Mature Students Task Group and the Education Task Group. She was also a writer and co-editor of the AGCAS and HECSU What Do Graduates Do? joint publication for a number of years. Maureen also chaired her regional heads of service group in the West Midlands and coordinated the AGCAS Heads of Service Conference at Aston University in 2011.

Energy and passion

In addition to her own contribution to AGCAS, Maureen always encouraged staff to be proactive within AGCAS for the benefit of both the organisation and their own professional development.

If proof of her energy and passion for careers and employability work was ever needed,  even after retiring as Head of Service from Aston University, Maureen didn't stay out of action for long before moving on to the Higher Education Academy, where she has taken her work to new levels with an international reach.

Maureen's nomination for this award included the following comment:

“There are so many staff working throughout the higher education careers family who can say that they were not only inspired by this dynamo of a woman but who really wouldn’t be in their roles today without her encouragement. She always sees the potential of the people she comes into contact with and inspires them to go further and higher. She is a true inspiration”.
