Data visualisation: student mobility in and out of the UK

This interactive graphic shows how the UK as a provider and host of internationally mobile students has evolved over recent years. The data stretches back as far as 1978. From 2002, differences in gender, age, level and disciplines studied are displayed for incoming students.

Created by Kiln for the British Council, the data has been sourced mainly from the Higher Education Statistics Authority (HESA) (for students entering the UK) and the UNESCO Institute for Statistics (for students exiting the UK).

This new interactive data visualisation is intended only as a representation of the data and to show how international student mobility from a UK perspective is changing. Once you have launched the data visualisation you can use the 'cog' icon to adjust the speed at which the display changes, to see more countries and to explore further back in time.
