A Dynamic Nucleus: Colleges at the Heart of Local Communities

This final report from the Independent Commission on Colleges in their Communities presents a vision of further education colleges as a dynamic nucleus at the centre of their communities, creating links and establishing networks of partnerships.

The Commission was set up in January 2011 to investigate the role that FE colleges can and do play within their communities, and the added public value that they can bring to those communities in their role as leaders of learning.

The report summarises the Commission's conclusions from the ten months of research, analysis and discussion and suggests a way forward. It  concludes that colleges can not only help people into jobs through skills training, but, by being proactive in their work with local communities, can also harness the energy of those communities towards positive outcomes which in turn promote health, happiness and social cohesion.
