Mastering Expectations: Perspectives on PGT Study and Career Interventions

This one-day workshop will focus on strategies and tips for managing expectations: those of students through to working collaboratively with academic and professional services colleagues.

“A Masters can boost earning potential by £200,000.”

“A Masters makes you more employable.”

“With a Masters from the University of XXXX there’ll be no problem finding a job.”

Sound familiar?

As careers staff we can often find ourselves picking up the pieces of misinformation/misconceptions about how transformative a PGT degree can be.

You may know of PGT students for whom the above statements have been very true, but for the majority of PGTs there is usually some careful management of expectations required. In many cases that falls to us and we find ourselves having to deliver a dose of reality – not just to students, but to some of our university colleagues too.

This one-day workshop will focus on strategies and tips for managing expectations: those of students through to working collaboratively with academic and professional services colleagues. The day will be interactive, with case studies and discussion groups to give you useful tips to take back and consider adapting for your own institution.
