AGCAS Annual Conference 2019

Aspiring and Achieving: Impacting Social Mobility through Innovation

It is no longer enough to encourage wider participation of non-traditional students in higher education. The Office for Students has a firmly stated priority of ensuring that universities concentrate on enabling successful progression and high quality outcomes for such students. It’s not just about ‘getting in’, but ‘staying in’ and ‘getting on’.

This year’s conference will focus on how AGCAS members are playing an innovative role in addressing the challenge of ‘staying in’ and ‘getting on’, whilst under increasing pressure to demonstrate impact and value for money. Themed days will allow you to better plan attendance:

  • Wednesday 4 September: Innovating for integration
How are services developing new approaches and using digital technology to reach more non-traditional students by aligning careers and employability activities more closely with the core academic mission of their institutions?

  • Thursday 5 September: Innovating for local impact
How are services developing innovative approaches to create opportunities in regional graduate labour markets and achieve positive outcomes for both traditional and non-traditional students locally?

  • Friday 6 September: Innovating for increasing aspiration
How are services developing the ambition, resilience and entrepreneurial spirit of traditional and non-traditional students, before, during and after their time at university, to equip them for success in a changing job market?

To increase flexibility for delegates, this year’s conference does not include accommodation. Central Manchester offers a wide range of hotels, Airbnb’s and city lets nearby, allowing you to choose the type of accommodation suits your requirements and budget.

Be sure to book accommodation early to avoid any disappointment, as there are also other events happening across the city on these dates.

The evening meal on the first night of conference, Wednesday 4 September is also not automatically included this year, however, AGCAS will be hosting dinner to facilitate networking and socialising opportunities for members. The venue will be confirmed at a later date. The booking option for this has now closed, please contact Learning@agcas.org.uk

Other elements of the conference remain the same as previous years with a great programme of keynote speakers and workshops on offer, New Member Networking Lunches, the Awards for Excellence Showcase, Task group Newsflashes, plus opportunities to meet and catch up with colleagues from across the sector.

AGCAS Awards for Excellence Dinner

The AGCAS Awards for Excellence Dinner will be held on Thursday 5 September at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate and winners presented with their awards.
