Seeking nominations for two AGCAS Board positions

31 August 2018

The AGCAS Nominations Working Party is seeking nominations for the roles of Vice-President and a new Theme Director. Full details on these positions can be found below.

The Nominations Working Party will shortlist candidates for election by the membership based on the role criteria and giving due consideration to the makeup of the Board to ensure it is representative of the membership. View the Nominations Working Party terms of reference.

Nominations are invited from Full Members of AGCAS, however the Nominations Working Party would be particularly interested in nominations from the devolved nations, the North or south west England.

The Vice-President and Theme Director are both members of the AGCAS Board. Nominees need to be able to commit to the time requirements of the role and the legal obligations of a trustee. A standard term for these roles is three years. At this point you will have the opportunity to either leave the post, or continue into a second term.

The Vice-President works alongside the President, the Board and the AGCAS Executive Director to support the development and delivery of the AGCAS Vision and Strategy. The Vice-President takes a lead role in ensuring good governance of AGCAS, and also chairs the Remuneration Committee and the Nominations Working Party.

Nominations are sought from colleagues who are good general managers, with demonstrable experience in effective decision-making and a strong empathy with AGCAS’ mission.

The nominations Working Party are looking for someone to bring a fresh perspective to this role; they do not have to have experience of being on the AGCAS Board.

Theme Director: Academic Alignment

The Theme Director, supported by board colleagues and the AGCAS Staff Team, is responsible for leading on a theme of strategic importance for AGCAS. These themes may change during the time of office to accommodate the needs of the membership.

The first theme this Director will be engaging heavily with is academic alignment. Acknowledging the wide variation across our member institutions on how employability is delivered to students, this theme enables AGCAS to contribute to the integration of employability, regardless of whether it’s within the curriculum, co-curricular, or extra-curricular (or a combination); while also encompassing effective relationship building with academics and collaborations around the concept of careers education.

Nominations are sought from colleagues who are already working in this area and have an active ambition in leading this theme to become the national voice on academic alignment.
